Gunmen Abduct Travellers, Kill 2 In Minna On Election Eve

Two persons have been killed and unspecified number of travellers abducted by gun men on election eve in Niger state.

This therefore implied that the passengers abducted at Tashar Amale in Rafi Local Government Council may not be able to exercise their franchise in the Presidentiial and National Assembly elections taken place throughout the country today.

They were also said to have engaged in shooting sporadically on some Muslims faithfuls who were observing Jumaat prayers in the area that forced many of them to took to their heels for fear of being killed.

Similarly a canter conveying the travellers comprising of men women and children has been burnt by the bandits and there after abducted them to an unknown destination.

Secretary to the Niger State Government Ahmed Ibrahim Matane who confirmed the incident however said they they were yet to confirm the actual number of people abducted by the bandits at the time of filling in this report.

Also speaking in a telephone interview INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Niger state Alh Ahmed Yusha’u Garki said all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the conduct of this Saturday’s general elections.

He further said they have already taken delivery of all electoral materials to all the twenty five local government councils in Niger state including some few local governments affected by insurgency for the conduct of free fair and credible elections.

Most people interviewed wondered why the bandits came out in their large number carrying dangerous weapons on the eve of election after long period of absence and called on Niger state government and relevant bodies to come to their aid.
