Election Violence: DIG Warms Thugs To Behave Themselves

The Nigeria Police say anyone or group that attempts to truncate the presidential and National Assembly election will pay dearly for it.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of South East Zone, Mr John Amadi stated this while briefing journalists at the Police Command Headquarters in Amawbia, in Awka South local government area.

According to him, security agencies in the zone were ready for the exercise and will not tolerate anyone who would want to disrupt the election in the area under any guise.

DIG Amadi who said he had visited all the commands in the zone to ascertain their level of preparedness , confirmed that they were all ready to work with other security agencies to ensure that the Election is peaceful and successful.

He noted that the South East Zone remains part of the Nigeria government and that no element will claim authority over it to the point of saying elections will not hold in the area.

The Deputy Inspector of Police therefore encouraged the people not to be afraid but to come out and exercise their franchise as adequate provisions had been made to guarantee their safety during and after the election.

He also charged the Strategic Commanders and officers deployed for the election to discharge their duties professionally and remain civil in their dealings with the public, especially the electorate.

The DIG also urged them to be at alert, and vigilant to prevent untoward incidents or unforeseen developments.
