Between Criminals And Freedom Fighters: A Case Of Nnamdi Kanu And Abba Kyari

Some Nigerians are no longer comfortable seeing freedom fighters tortured, caged and incarcerated while looters, thieves and hardened criminals who they think have apparently caused the society more harm, seem to be accorded VIP treatment, during their arraignments.

Online users who brought up this concern were reacting to the trending photo of the IPOB leader,Mazi Nnamdi Kanu brought to court in handcuff and that of Abba Kyari in designer wears and without handcuff during his arraignment.

They said such ugly culture should be jettisoned to convince the people that the government is genuinely interested in its anti-corruption fight.

According to them, Abba Kyari allegedly committed first grade crimes under the cover of the police uniform and by doing so has caused the country much more harm, disgrace and losses than the freedom fighter Nnamdi Kanu.

Born on 25th September, 1967, Nnamdi Kanu is a British-Nigerian political activist who advocates for the secession and independence of Biafra.

He is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which he founded in 2014.

The main aim of IPOB is to restore the separatist state of Biafra which existed in Nigeria’s Eastern Region during the Nigerian Civil War of 1967–1970.

On the other hand, Abba Kyari who was born on 17th March 1975 was a Deputy Commissioner of Police , but suspended for his alleged connection with international internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas popularly known as “Hushpuppi”. While still being investigated over his Hushpuppi connection,

he was arrested by NDLEA for being a member of a strong global drug network.

Information about the two men facing trial were gotten from Wikipedia
