Dispatch Riders Protest In Lagos Over Harassments And Multiple Taxable By Governments And Agencies

Dispatch riders and delivery drivers in their hundreds today staged a peaceful protest to the Lagos State Assembly in Alausa, Ikeja over multiple taxable by different state and federal government agencies, as well as harassments by uniformed men in the state. They specifically mentioned officials from police, LASTMA and VIO as faces of “task masters” that have made the environment a hell for them to operate.

Chanting slogans and spreading their message using publish address systems, they noted that paying too many tariffs has caused them to continue to operate at a loss.

The courier operators who carried placards bearing inscriptions in line with their demand had waited at the Assembly gate for hours without anyone coming to attend to them.

They were still stationed there till around past 1pm when our correspondent left the venue.

They complained that they were subjected to pay for “rider card” issued by Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC; Nigerian Postal Agency; Ogun State Government and Lagos State Government, which they described as a burden too big for them to bear.

They pleaded to be allowed to operate with only the rider card issued by FRSC.
