Dr. Qasim Akinreti

The reported continued demonstration of bad blood by the Olu of Arepo towards residents at the Journalists Estate in his domain, has been condemned in strong terms by the immediate Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council, Dr. Qasim Akinreti.

Taking to his Official Facebook Page, Dr. Akinreti described the development as “an impunity of the highest order and violation of the rights of Nigerian journalists who have brought Arepo to the world map”.

The Journalists Estate in the Arepo area of Ogun State is the first of its kind in Africa. However, residents at the estate have been in loggerheads with the traditional head of the town who is known by his tittle as “the Olu of Arepo”.

Dr.  Akinreti while condemning the disagreement , explained that “It will be recalled that in 2016, a team of journalists from Benin Republic, Ghana and Germany visited Arepo to confirm truly, the first journalists estate in Africa and perhaps the  world.

“The unity journalists praised the efforts of Nigerian journalists in the initiative aimed at bringing together members of the pen profession under one community.

“The unity journalists promised to emulate this great idea in their different countries” Akinreti concluded”.
