Ekiti State Introduces New Way Of Punishing Sex Offenders

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti

The Government of Ekiti State, Southwest Nigeria, has come up with a new way of dealing with convicted sex offenders in the state. In line with the new system, convicted sex offenders are not just sentenced, but also named and shamed publicly.

Mrs. Mary Oso Omotoso, the Special Assistant on Media to the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, made this known when he posted on her Facebook Timeline, two recently convicted sex offenders in the state.

Referring to the two convicts, she wrote, ” They are convicted sex offenders in Ekiti State

“In Ekiti State, we don’t just sentence you for rape, we name and shame you publicly” she added.

The SA however explained that, “The naming and shaming of sex offenders in Ekiti State did not just start. It started over 2 years ago.

“Governor Fayemi introduced it in 2019 in furtherance of the State Government’s zero tolerance for sexual violence in the state.
