UNILAG Hosts 52nd Convocation, To Start Assembling Cars

The University of Lagos, UNILAG, says it will soon start assembling cars in the country.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe announced this at the 52nd Convocation of the school, held today at the University Campus, in Akoka, Lagos.

He noted that the giant stride the University was about to make in assembling cars in the country was the product of the University’s huge investment in innovation, research and entrepreneurship.

He also announced that the university had developed a ventilator that could be used at any part of the country including the rural areas due to the fact that it could be powered by solar energy.

Professor Ogundipe explained that the ventilator was undergoing clinical trial under the watch of the Lagos State government.

The University of Lagos Vice Chancellor, also noted that the university had witnessed tremendous progress in all ramifications in recent times especially in infrastructural development.

Prof. Ogundipe stressed that the university had collaborated with other institutions to make giant strides in different areas of intellectual development, provision of more hostel facilities and provision of entrepreneurial grants to students .

He explained that these great feat by the university had improved the school’s global ranking and repositioned the university as the number one choice among admission seekers in the country.

Professor Ogundipo seized the opportunity of the event to thank President Mohamadu Buhari for standing firm by the university in its turbulent times as he also congratulated the graduating students for achieving the milestones.

” I want to say congratulations to the graduating students who have come to UNILAG. You have seen and you have conquered. Now we use you as eagles that will soer. We need you to go and take dominion, and pocession. Go and contribute in building the economy of this country. We release you to go and rebuilt this nation. We release you to be recognised globally”.

The VC said more than twelve thousand graduating students received awards of post graduate diploma, Masters Degrees and PHD Degrees.

According to him, “Today which is the final day of this convocation ceremony, we are releasing a total of 12,217 graduands, 7,799 will receive first degrees or diplomas while 4,418 will receive postgraduate degrees.

“I am glad to also inform you that of the 4,418 postgraduate students, 145 students will be awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in various disciplines, while 3,863 will obtain Masters degrees in the various fields across the University, and 410 will receive Postgraduate Diplomas”, he added.

In the postgraduate category, the overall best Ph.D. Thesis award for this year goes to UMUDU, Joy Chinyere who obtained her Ph.D. in Mathematics (Pure) while the best Ph.D. Thesis in Humanities award goes to EHIOROBO, Osa Abraham, who obtained his Ph.D. in Management.”

President Buhari and the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu were represented at the occasion.
