Thugs carrying weapons have taken over Maza-Maza and other Igbo dominated areas of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos, threatening people not to come out to vote unless they will cast their ballot for the ruling APC.

Soldiers at Epe Boundary have refused the Press, Election Observers and others to gain access into Epe Township.

With all forms of identifications presented at the point of entry, the soldiers insisted that restrictions on vehicular movement does not exempt essential workers, including Journalists.

All efforts to convince them on the importance of the role of the media during election process fell on their deaf hears.

All the soldiers and other security operatives deployed to the Island up to Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos gave the access to pass through the road blocks but it was so surprising that those deployed at Epe Boundary are acting like demigods.

It should also be noted that they became very aggressive the moment they site one’s Press Identity card.

There was an orderliness and peaceful atmosphere in Mushin area of the state as INEC officials arrived at most of the polling units earlier than expected by electorates.

In areas visited by our correspondent, there was high level of compliance among the people as streets were deserted and the electorate were at polling units as early as 8am.

INEC officials and voting materials got to many polling booths as at 8am.

Electorate were seen lined up in a peaceful manner to exercise their franchise.

Voters were accredited at 8:30 a.m without any hindrance with the presence of security agencies, political parties agents and INEC officials.

Obalende Poll

Poll opened around 8am at polling units 01, 02, 03, 04, 039 and, 040 in Ijeh and units 10, 12 Obalende road as well as units 27 in Ojo street and unit 15 Dodan barracks, all in Ikoyi Obalende LCDA.

The Presiding officers and other adhoc staff pasted the list of voters for accreditation and voting.

The Presiding officers addressed voters before commencing the process, calling for orderliness and violence free exercise.

Electorate organised themselves in a coordinated manner to exercise their franchise.

Meanwhile, party agents and security personnel are attacking Journalists with camera phones at Unit 10 and 12 not to snap with it.

Unlike what happened during the presidential and National Assembly elections three weeks ago, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security personnel arrived early at polling units in Shomolu, Bariga, Ilaje, Onipanu, Palmgroove, area for this Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Our correspondent observes that the INEC officials and security personnel arrived early at the various polling units visited.

They arrived with all the materials needed for the conduct of the election.

Accreditation of voters start early as 9am

Military men were seen on the highway of Agege Motor road and Ikorodu road, while youth also take to the inner road to play football

Distribution of sensitive materials started early at Enitan primary school, Aguda Surulere Lagos where the INEC staffs were on ground.

There has been heavy presence of soldiers and police men at the Aguda Market junction which connected the Enitan primary school.

Accreditation of voters /voting started as early as 8.30am in most polling units visited including 026, 016, 017, 040, 041, 044,051, in Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos state.

Voters are calm and peacefully excersing their franchise while the turn out is quite impressive.

Peaceful atmosphere has been witnessed at ibeju Lekki as the INEC officials arrived to most of the polling units in some areas such as eleko, Orimedu and some area along Dangote refinary road early in order to ensure smooth conduct of the Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections.

The security operatives were spotted at their designated duty post.

Poll has opened in all polling units across Oshodi Isolo Local Government Area of the state.

Residents trooped out in their numbers to exercise their franchise.

At the moment, the atmosphere is peaceful as security agents are stationed in strategic areas to maintain law and order.

Open spaces in Monkey Village , as well as other areas in Maza-Maza, Amuwo Odofin Local Government of Lagos State, have been turned into football pitches by youths and children, as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commossion, INEC, have not showed up as at past 10, o’clock.

Some of the people playing football had reported at their polling units very early, but after waiting in vain for so long for INEC officials ,joined others to while away time.

In some of the polling units such as Benster A 108,Benster B 109, Alabun Osunba 1, Alahun Osumba 11 and F-Show that is dominated by people from the northern part of the country, the electorate have already mounted canopies , while awaiting the eventual arrival of INEC officials.

They have also written down their names according to how they came, to ensure orderliness.

In the meantime, agents of some parties are strategizing on the possibility of going to bring the electoral personnel.

Radio Nigeria gathered that INEC officials also came very late to the areas mentioned , and indeed most parts of Amuwo Odofin during the February 25th Presidential election.

At some of the polling units,the officials came at past one in the afternoon, and by around 5 pm ,were itching to leave.

Meanwhile, there has been no breakdown of law and order within Amuwo Odofin and it’s environs.
