Radio Nigeria Trains Staff On Election Coverage

Says 2023 election is peculiar and FRCN cannot afford to take chances

To ensure a successful coverage of the forthcoming general elections, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Lagos Operations has embarked on a sensitization workshop to equip reporters covering the elections.

The sensitization workshop is to train reporters on the rudiments involved in the coverage of general elections and to ensure that the reporters are professional in the coverage of the national assignment.

In an opening remark at the Workshop, the Immediate Past Acting Director, news and Current Affairs, FRCN Headquarters, Mallam Musa Abdullahi said that reporters must adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession and the National Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, code for election coverage.

similarly training has been conducted for staff members at the FRCN’s Headquarters, Abuja.

He stressed that, getting the right information is key and reporters must detach themselves from personal interest when covering elections so as to be fair in their news judgement and reportage.

He urged them to always remember that the focusd of Radio Nigeria at all times is to uplift the people and unite the nation.

Mallam Abdullahi therefore, advised reporters to be safety conscious as they go into the field because Radio Nigeria values the lives of its staff.

The Director ,Lagos Operations , Mrs. Bolanle Owoyemi while declaring the training open urged reporters to carry out their assignment professionally in the best interest of Radio Nigeria.

Mrs. Owoyemi who commended reporters for doing their best in keeping the stations going despite all odds, gave the assurance that the management had put necessary modalities in place to ensure that the coverage of the 2023 general elections would be a success.

In an opening remark, the Deputy Director , News and Current Affairs, Lagos Operations, Mr. Fred Shaka-Braimah said the workshop was important to equip the reporters for the task ahead and to ensure that the reporters were well armed with necessary pro fessional information needed for the election coverage.
