EFCC Arrests Bank Officials For Hoarding,Selling New Notes In Nasarawa

Following several complaints from residents of Nasarawa state against banks for alleged money racketeering, the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN says it has engaged the services of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC and the Department of state services DSS to track down and arrest offenders.

Speaking with newsmen in lafia, CBN Director of security services, Atiku Mohammad Nasir said the move has started yielding positive result as some bank officials in the state have been arrested.

Atiku Mohammad explained that the activities of some bank officials had been frustrating the effort of the apex bank to ensure availability of the new naira notes in circulation. .

The Director maintained that CBN personnel spread across the country would continue with sensitisation campaign on the need for Nigerians to deposit the old notes before the extended deadline and importance of having the E-Naira account for easy transfer of money..
