Abia Ministries,Agencies Deserted As Workers Observe Public Holiday Over PVC

Abia State Government House as well as the state’s ministries, agencies and departments in Umuahia,the state capital appeared deserted this morning as workers did not show up due to the 2 days public holidays declared by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to enable them collect their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.

Similar situation was observed at 15 local governments across the state as confirmed by our sources.

The two days public holiday commences today Monday 23rd January 2023.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu had approved that Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th January 2023 be declared as public holidays in the State to enable Abians and residents to collect their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

A statement by Barr. Chris Ezem,
Secretary to Abia State Government on 21st January 2023 says;

“Consequently, all public offices and markets are to be closed as all are enjoined to use this opportunity to visit the INEC offices or collection centres where they registered to collect their PVCs ahead of the 29th January 2023 deadline by INEC for closure of PVC collection.

“The Executives of the various markets in the State are directed to ensure strict compliance on the closure of their various markets or be prepared to face appropriate sanctions.

Banks and those on essential duties are not affected by this directive”.

Buzzministry reports that collection of PVCs which is now at the Ward level closes this week. After that, uncollected PVCs will be carried to Local Governments.

Southwest is said to top the list of uncollected PVCs.
