Endsars: FG Awards Over 289 Million Naira Compensation To 74 Victims

The Federal Government today awarded over 289 million naira as compensation to 74 victims of human rights violations and alleged extra-judicial killings by the defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS.
At the event in Abuja, the Executive Secretary National Human Rights Commission Chief Tony Ojukwu explained that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was committed to ensuring that victims of human rights violation are appropriately compensated while the violators are prosecuted for the heinous crimes.
Those compensated include, victims of unlawful detention and torture, victims of illegal arrest, victims of enforce disappearance and extra-judicial killings.
The beneficiaries were given an amount ranging from 500 thousand to 17 million naira depending on the petition of the beneficiaries.
