Digital Skills training for youths is the way to go for Nigeria to move along with others in the global economy that is largely driven by information, Communications and technology, ICT.

This was the submission of speakers at the inauguration of a digital training programme for some youths in Mushin area of Lagos.

They also called on more privileged Nigerians to join forces with governments in providing essential services especially portable water, qualitative healthcare and food for the poor masses.

The training programme was facilitated by Pastor Leke Abeboye, the last born of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, in commemoration of his fortieth birthday.

Pastor Leke also donated to the Mushin community a borehole, school uniforms for indigent students, food items and medicated glasses for those with eye defects.
One of the speakers at the event, Pastor Oluwafemi Oyewunmi who was the project manager, said Pastor Leke Adeboye embarked on the exercise tagged “Shinning the Light” following a divine message that he should go back to the place of his birth and invest in the people.

Pastor Oyewunmi explained that the training being organised in partnership with an IT firm would be in-depth, covering a wide range of topics in Data Science.

According to him, the training is for those that intend to pursue a career in technology or those willing to upgrade their skills in ICT.
Pastor Oyewunmi further stated that the goal of Pastor Leke Adeboye was to see that beneficiaries of the empowerment programme secure employment with global tech organisations and also establish their own firms in the long run so as to contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

His words, “We have come to shine the light of God in Mushin. We have come to celebrate you people. We have come to impact the life of this place. And we are trusting God that throughout today your life will be blessed spiritually, financially and in all ramifications in the mighty name of Jesus.
“The Lord gave us a mandate through his son Pastor Leke Adeboye. Just in case you don’t know Pastor Leke Adeboye was born here in Mushin. And one of the things he said that humbled me was that, he could have ended up in the street like just every other person. But the grace of God sustained him.
“So he wanted to spend his 40th birthday giving back to where he was born and that was what birthed this. In doing that,we felt what can we do to be part of these people? We realized that there was issue of water. When I was coming, I saw a lot of people lining up for water as early as 6am. God has helped him. He has built a borehole with a power that is going to supply free of charge”, he added.

Other speakers at the event which include some Mushin residents and RCCG youths commended the good gesture of the donor and urged others that God had blessed to find ways of giving back to the society, particularly, their places of birth.

The event which attracted so many people in the Mushin Community was like a carnival, featuring live performances by gospel artistes.
There were also presentations of prizes and cash gifts to communities that came first, second and third in a football competition organized in honour of the birthday celebrant.
