The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, has recommended the prosecution of a National Union of Road Transport Worker, NURTW, chieftain, Azeez Lawal (a.k.a. Kunle-Poly), in connection with an alleged murder case.
Chief Magistrate Linda Balogun sitting in Yaba, revealed the DPP advice stated that Kunle Poly and his accomplices would be tried at the State High Court for murder.
Kunle Poly’s accomplice, Adekanbi Wahab, is also recommended to face trial for being a member of an unlawful society.
Chief Magistrate Balogun added that the DPP advised that three other defendants, whose names were mentioned in the advice, should be discharged though they were charged separately from the two defendants.
Subsequently, she ordered that the case be transferred to the High Court for further trial.
Meanwhile, their counsels reminded the court of a pending application for bail.
The chief Magistrate thereafter granted each defendant bail in the sum of N1million each.
The court also ordered that the defendants produce two sureties each as part of the bail condition.
She held that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler or religious leader, adding that both sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
