FIFA Finally Sanctions Nigeria Over Post-Match Violence

Fans destroying facilities at stadium in anger over defeat of the Super Eagles by the Black Stars of Ghana

As anticipated, FIFA has hit its sledge hammer on Nigeria, banning the Moshood Abiola National Stadium , Abuja where fans invaded pitch to protest defeat of the Super Eagles by the Black Stars of Ghana in the crucial World Cup Qualifying play-off.

By this ban, the stadium will no longer host international matches.

Nigeria was held to a 1-1 draw which cost her a place in the Qatar World Cup, having failed to score in Ghana. That got the anxious fans furious as they invaded the pitch, destroying facilities. The situation lead to a commotion with footballers and officials running for their lives into the dressing room.

In the process, a FIFA official , Zambian Medical doctor Joseph Kabungo collapsed and died. He was said to had suffered a cardiac arrest.
