NAMA Enhances Security At Kaduna Airport After Attack

Kaduna Airport/Attack

Security has been beefed up at the Kaduna airport over today’s attack by some persons alleged to be bandits.

Military trucks and personnel have been deployed to the airport to secure lives and property.

A staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA who guard some of the navigational facilities, the Very high frequency omni-directional range (VOR), at the airside was killed during the attack which occurred at noon.

Managing Director, NAMA, Mr. Matthew Pwajok, who confirmed the attack said, the guard was killed a kilometer away from the navigational facilities while the technical staff on duty ran for safety after the guard was killed.

“It’s true, bandits attacked our Navaids site which is a kilometer away from the runway, they killed the watchman while the technical staff ran back, we alerted the military and they responded swiftly, the situation is now under control by the military, the few flights were able to take off afterwards”.

Due to the attack, an aircraft belonging to AZMAN Air scheduled to depart for Lagos could not take off due to the commotion at the airport with the presence of the bandits.

Last year in March, a similar attack also happened at the airport with the abduction of some family members including staff of NAMA and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMET.
