The Nigerian Senate has finally passed the bill for an act to establish the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), a multimodal accident investigation agency.
This is coming about a month after the House of Representatives passed the same bill.
The bill when assented to by President Mohammed Buhari, will transform the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria (AIB-N) into a multi modal safety Investigation agency to include rail and maritime to Aircraft Accident Investigation.
The spokesman for the Bureau, Mr. Tunji Oketunbi in a statement says, the AIB Commissioner Mr. Akin Oleteru broke the news to staff in Abuja Tuesday.
Mr. Olateru, described the passage of the bill as a reward for the diligence and commitment of the staff of the agency who he said has been working tirelessly for the success of the exercise.
While thanking the Minister of Aviation Senator Hadi Sirika for his support, adds that, the establishment of the NSIB is a good development and will be of great benefits to all Nigerians as it will provide adequate legal and institutional framework for the regulation and administration of safety transportation occurrences in Nigeria.
Reacting to the news of the passage of the bill, the Commissioner, Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA), Mr. Charles Erhue said, it is a great feat to the AIB family and to the Banjul Accord Group (BAG) region.
