Defeats Egypt In Penalty Shoot Out To Win 1st AFCON Cup

Senegal has won the 2021 edition of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, after defeating Egypt in the final which dragged to penalty shoot out.

This would be the first time that the West African nation would win the tournament.

Senegal’s star, Sadio Mane had missed a penalty in the opening minutes in the first half, which could have allowed them win early enough without dragging the match to 120 minutes and subsequently penalty shoot out.

Interestingly, it was also Mane that scored the crucial penalty that crowned Senegal as African champion.

Mandy of Senegal won the goalkeeper of the Tournament; Vincent Aboubaker of Cameroon clinched the Golden Booth award with 8 goals while Senegal’s Mane win the best player of AFCON 2021.

In the meantime, citizens from the different West African countries including Nigeria, Liberia, Gambia and Sierra Leone have been celebrating the victory by Senegal, saying their win is a win for all of them in West Africa.
